For high school students and admission offices alike, May 1 is a big deal. It is the national deposit deadline, so students need to commit to their chosen institution and let schools know if they will be attending in the fall. While some students make their decision earlier in the year, the vast majority wait until the last possible minute to make that commitment. We understand that it can be a stressful process and that each student is weighing all the pros and cons in making this decision. In the end though, most students make their choice and go on to have an amazing experience at their institution.
On our side, we're anxiously watching the numbers each day - waiting to see who will choose to join us at DU for the next four years. After putting so much time in to reading applications, welcoming visitors to campus and answering countless emails and phone calls, we are just as excited as some of the students to see them make the decision to attend. We know they will have an amazing journey ahead of them and we can't wait to see what they choose to do during their time on campus. So many students come in with grand ideas of changing the world - and we want to help them realize those dreams as well as discover those they never knew they had!
One particular cohort of students I have the pleasure of working with each year are our incoming Boettcher Scholars. Each year the Boettcher Foundation selects 42 students from across the state based on:
- superior scholastic ability
- evidence of leadership and involvement
- service to community and school
- outstanding character
As these students are selecting which Colorado institution to attend, I help arrange personalized visits to sit in on classes, meet with professors, have lunch with current Boettcher scholars and participate in other activities that will help each student get a feel for what life could be like on campus. It's always fun for our staff and current students to meet with these amazing scholars along this journey. We are excited to welcome 13 incoming Boettcher Scholars this fall!
Our entire campus is poised to welcome our new students in the fall and help them begin this next phase of their adventure. We made it to May 1!
