For the past few weeks, all of my social media accounts have been filled with pictures of my friends graduating from their own respective universities across the country, while here I am at DU with a full two weeks left before finals begin. The quarter system has allowed me a whole two months more of college than my friends graduating from a semester university! With this being said, I could not feel more excited, thankful, and proud to be two short weeks away from walking across the stage, calling myself an alumna of this great institution. I have met so many great people, experienced more than I could have ever hoped, and most of all learned so much both academically and personally. I can’t help but think back to 4 years ago when I moved to Denver not knowing a single soul, but simply bought a pioneer T-shirt and already felt right at home.
All of these feelings are exactly why I am so grateful that I have two weeks longer than some of my peers back home to be a part of this community on campus for the last time as an undergraduate.
Oftentimes people ask me what my favorite thing was about my college experience. And to answer this question, it is obvious to me that it was the community I created, because DU made it so easy. It was so easy for me to make friends through the different organizations that I was involved in, such as Alpine Club, my freshman dorm floor (shout out to Halls 10 South!), Greek Life, the film school, working in the admission office, and volunteer opportunities, in addition to creating strong relationships with professors and classmates that lasted all four years of my studies.
My academic advisor, Tony Gault, has been a part of my film career here since my first film class, and helped me get the job that I will be working full time after graduation. One of my classmates that I worked on a project with in Professor Gault’s class is also a student that I am now working with for my senior capstone project, and consider one of my good friends. I am so thankful for all of these opportunities that DU has afforded me and really can't believe it is coming to a close!
So, yes, I have two full weeks of classes and several finals to study for… I must say even though it is week 9, I am feeling quite fine! I guess I should start decorating my graduation cap…
