The month of May is always an interesting time in the DU admission office. After a very intense spring visit season, we start the month off with the national May 1 deposit deadline for incoming high school students. Then, the office gets noticeably quieter. As our respective internal teams transition into summer project mode, we make sure to take some time for ourselves too! Featured are some of the Memorial Day weekend plans from various admission team members:
Stephanie Tengelsen, Associate Director of Admission and Communication - Stephanie saw “Book Club” with her ladies in Colorado Springs on Friday, followed by the arrival of her boyfriend from Virginia on Saturday where they shopped for his new condo and got dinner/drinks. Sunday brought brunch in Denver with friends before heading to a family barbeque. She wrapped up the whirlwind with Top Golf and more time with family on Monday. Whew! As she put it, “it was awesomely busy!”
Rachel Balows, Associate Director of Admission and Communication - Rachel started off her weekend with an office favorite, Park Burger, for dinner on Friday. Saturday was a blissfully relaxing and free day. She started Sunday off with a dog training gig followed by a wedding in the afternoon. Monday brought Rachel and her family up to Boulder where she cheered on her brother and dad as they finished the famous Bolder Boulder 10k race. Her family then went to the Boulder Creek festival and closed out the day with a family barbeque.
Marjorie Smith, Associate Dean/Director, International Student Admission - Marjorie officially welcomed the summer months by putting away her sweaters and breaking out her shorts! She had time to enjoy the warm Colorado weekend with a hike and a grill session before leaving for a conference on Monday.
Marissa Manzanares, Admission Specialist - Marissa hosted her best friends from her hometown of Salt Lake City. She had a great weekend playing tour guide as they went to the Denver Arts Festival, Cherry Creek Reservoir, and enjoyed Denver’s late night scene.
Aimee Spencer, Enrollment Specialist - Aimee headed to Paso Robles, California for her cousin’s wedding. She really enjoyed spending time with her family, checking out vineyards, and relaxing.
Jenn Paar Gross, Midwestern Regional Director - Jenn and her husband got married over Memorial Day Weekend six years ago, so they celebrated their anniversary! Congrats, Jenn!
Jenn Rau, Campus Visit Coordinator - Jenn also hosted her best friend over the weekend. They saw Taylor Swift on Friday night!
Claudia Hernandez-Ponce, Associate Director of Admission/Director, Latinx/Hispanic Pioneer Prep Leadership Institute - Claudia gets a special mention as she and her husband have been traveling for the last week. This year, they are visiting Spain, Portugal, and Morocco. Hope you are having fun, Claudia, and we cannot wait to live vicariously through your amazing pictures!
As for yours truly, I watched Diesel, a 140 lb. Rottweiler. Diesel lives across the street from my parents’ house, which meant plenty of family time as well. I am also gearing up for the North American Irish Dance Championships at the end of June, so had several intense dance practices which consisted of drilling, stamina, and blisters (better now than later though).
I hope everyone had a great long weekend... now onto summer projects!
