The weather is getting increasingly warmer & summer time lethargic-ness is setting in. DU classes ended 2 weeks ago and the graduating class of 2012 is now free to wreck good havoc on the workforce. I, however, have been experimenting with different summer drinks to try and keep my sweltering day somewhat exciting & interesting. Water in the summer is just plain boring. Here are a few recipes that perk up any drink.
Jello Cubes
- 1 box of jello (strawberry, orange, lime)
- 1 ½ cups of water
- 16 oz Hawaiian Punch
- 1 can of Sprite
Make jello according to directions on box and refrigerate in ice cube trays. Once set, plop jello cubes in Hawaiian Punch (or any drink of choice), grab a straw and enjoy!
Fresh Mint Julep Lemon Ice Tea
- 3 Lipton Tea Bags
- 2 Fresh Lemons
- 1 bunch of Fresh Mint
- 1 ½ cups Sugar
Steep tea in 2 quarts of warm water for 20 minutes (or to taste). Add sugar and stir until dissolved. Squeeze one lemon in the tea and stir. Slice the other lemon and place slices into pitcher. Add ice if serving right away and gently stir in mint leaves. If saving for a dinner party or picnic, gently stir in mint leaves and add ice when serving. Yum!
Good Morning Berry Smoooooooothy
- 1 cup frozen or fresh strawberries
- ½ cup frozen or fresh blueberries
- ½ banana
- ½ cup raspberries
- 1 ½ cup orange juice
- ½ cup vanilla or plain yogurt
- 2 tb. Spoons of honey
- 2 cups of ice
Add all of the above ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth (about 2 minutes). Fill juice glasses and enjoy the perfect compliment to any “on-the-go” breakfast or to Sunday brunch.
