During my five years here at the University of Denver (fours years as an undergraduate student and one year as a dual degree masters student), I have always helped with the Office of Admission. During my first year, I helped to host prospective students during our Open House and Pioneer Day programs. During my Sophomore Year, I served as a Tour Guide and student panelists. Then for three years after that I served as a Fellow helping with many visit programs and outreach initiatives. What an incredible experience to help bring students to campus and to show them what the DU experience is all about. After many years working with the office, I am sad to say that at the end of April, it completed my last official program.
I highly recommend that you find a job or internship during your college experience, whether on-campus or off-campus. For me, I believe the Admissions Office really was the most convenient job for me as I also concurrently worked for Housing as both a Resident Assistant during my sophomore and junior year and then a Desk Manager for two years after that. Most importantly, it helped me to hone important skills that I know will help me in the future, like presentation skills and project management. When you are young it is important to hone these type of skills that will help you in the future.
In general, the Office Admission is a great option for students who have work-study or who just need a job to make some extra cash. They offer tour guide jobs, calling team jobs, blogging positions, and fellowships. As you become a student at DU, I would be sure to check out these offerings.
As sad as it will be to leave such an amazing office, I look forward to the next chapter in my life, as I count down the days until graduation.
