Two years ago I watered my pillow with tears after the Broncos lost the Super Bowl to that team that shall not be named. I felt like the sun would never shine again. Like a true Bronco, I pulled up my orange socks and lived in hope. At the start of the 2015 NFL season, I was already living in Denver and super pumped about being in Broncos Country. I closed my prayer every night with “God bless my family and God bless Peyton Manning”. There was nothing like being here in the vibrancy of this city, feeling the energy and just knowing that the Broncos defensive ‘no fly zone’ was a spartanian force to be reckoned with.
I did hear every word that my pastor spoke on Super Bowl Sunday; but I was more concerned with whether or not God was hearing my prayers:
“Please, please let us win Super Bowl 50. I know the other team is praying, but I have been really good. My husband says you don’t take sides in sports but I don’t believe that. Please do it for me and bless Peyton Manning”
My apartment was Super Bowl central. Good home cooked meal and ice cream. But, I could not eat a morsel. There were way too much nerves – my nerves were on end and the nerve of these Panthers thinking they can deny us.
I ran every yard with the offense, blocked every path with the defense, sacked Newton with Miller, fouled with Talib, shouted Omaha with Peyton – God bless him – and hoisted that Lombardi trophy with the team.
I have celebrated wins before but celebration Broncos style is the yardstick by which all should be judged. Tuesday February 9, Pat Bowlen day, I helped to paint downtown Denver – Orange. I swelled with pride because I knew that we were here all because of my prayer.
I am enjoying living in the United States of America. There are some things that you can only experience by being here.
God bless these United States of America and God Bless Peyton Manning!
